Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, Ariznoa Published Saturday, June 26, 2010 Katherine Cunliffe Boentje passed away at home June 22, 2010, in Lake Havasu City, at the age of 92. She was born in Seattle on Nov. 10, 1917, to Harold and Katherine Cunliffe. She was a graduate of Queen Anne High School and a graduate of the University of Washington, where she was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority. She taught at Wapato High School before her marriage to John Dietrich Boentje Jr. They lived in Holden, Wash.; Chihuahua, Mexico; Vashon Island, Wash.; and Salt Lake City before settling in Hibbing, Minn. She was past president of A.A.U.W., past president of Hibbing Library Board, member of the founding Board of the Arrowhead Library System, and member of the Board of Hibbing Community College. She was the first woman elected to the Board of Minnesota Power, where she served for 12 years. She divided her time between Lake Eshquaguma, Minn., and Lake Havasu City. She was a member of the Kitchi Gammi Club in Duluth, Minn., St. John’s Episcopal Church in Eveleth, Minn., St. James Episcopal Church in Hibbing, Minn., Eshquaguma Country Club, the Lake Havasu Branch of A.A.U.W, and Grace Episcopal Church of Lake Havasu City. She is survived by children, David Henry (Lyn), Helen Ann, Harold John (Ginger), and Katherine Leigh Frisch (Doug); grandchildren, John, Jennifer, Jeremy, Jason, Evan, Julia, Matt and Kayce; and great-grandchild, Abigail. Katherine was a remarkable woman, devoted wife, dedicated mother and treasured friend. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to any of the above-named churches or to the Children’s Home Society of Minnesota, 1605 Eustis St., St. Paul, MN 55108.
