ECKSTROM, Mary Alice

(Maiden Name: Rosales)


On March 29, 2010, surrounded by her loving family and accompanied by angels, Mary Alice Eckstrom left our earthly presence to begin her long awaited and promised journey of eternal life. She is survived by Dan Eckstrom, her husband of over 37 years; her devoted and adoring children: daughter, Jennifer Eckstrom and son, Daniel William Eckstrom II. She is also survived by her mother, Felicitas Rosales; her sisters, Jenny (Benny) Gomez and Grace Campbell; her brothers, Rudy (Mary Ann) Rosales, Robert (Mary Esther) Rosales, Julian Rosales and Louis (Aurora) Rosales; along with many loving nieces, nephews and Godchildren. She is predeceased by her father, Louis Rosales; her sister, Anita Rosales and her beloved niece, Melissa Dian Gomez. Affectionately known to all that knew her as "Alice", she selflessly gave of her time, talents and resources to many worthy community causes. She served for more than 20 years with the League of Mexican American Women, including numerous terms as President. She served the Diocese of Tucson for ten years, staffing the health care office at St. Ambrose Parish School, where she also served as President of the School Board. She also served on the Board of Directors for Catholic Community Services (CCS) of Southern Arizona, and as a community volunteer for the Pio Decimo Center. Most recently, LULAC and the NAACP presented her with the Rosa Parks Community Advocacy Award. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 31, 2010, from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., at CARRILLO'S TUCSON MORTUARY (South Chapel), with Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Rites of a Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, April 1, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Augustine's Cathedral, 192 S. Stone Avenue. Interment will follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the League of Mexican American Women, P.O. Box 26522, Tucson, AZ 85726, in support of the Pima Community College - Desert Vista Endowment Fund which provides student scholarships. Her untimely passing leaves many saddened family members and friends whose lives were deeply touched by this most phenomenal community servant of God, whose life's calling embodied unending love, kindness and generosity.
