FAZIO, Steve

Steve Fazio, 93, loving husband, caring and loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on January 24, 2010. He is survived by Mary Ellen, his wife of 69 years; daughter, Mary Jean Wilford (David); son, Steve Fazio (Kathy); five grandchildren, Kathy Hughes (Jeff), Brian Wilford (Theresa), Paul Wilford (Linda), Steven Fazio (Michelle), Jenni Shotwell (Landon); and 12 great- grandchildren, Briana, Emma, Kyle, Cloe, Candace, Cassidy, Julia, Ella, Jake, Aaron, Justin, and Hunter. A lifelong resident of Arizona, he attended the U of A and was awarded BS and MS degrees in Horticulture. He devoted his professional life of 46 years as a teacher and student advisor in the College of Agriculture at the U of A. He was beloved by his students and the recipient of numerous National, State, University and local awards. He was "Professor of the Year" in the College of Agriculture, the U of A "Presidents Club Award," Alumni "Distinguished Citizen Award" the L.M. Ware "Distinguished Teaching Award," Numerous commendations from the F.F.A., 4-H, and other grateful organizations. He was Past President of the International Plant Propagators Society, a founding member of the Tucson Mens Garden Club, and a judge at the State and County Fair competitions. He hosted radio and T.V. programs and wrote "Tales of a Desert Gardener" for the Tucson Citizen for many years. His greatest gift was a love and concern for others, his family, his friends, his students, and for whoever sought his help or advice. In lieu of flowers we suggest that any donations be made to The U of A Foundation/Arboretum Fund, CALS Development Office, P.O. Box 210036, Tucson, AZ 85721, St. Ambrose Catholic Church or your favorite charity. Mass will be offered 10:15 a.m., Saturday, January 30, 2010 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 300 S. Tucson Blvd., Tucson, AZ 85716 with a Rosary recited at 10:00 a.m. Entombment to follow at Holy Hope Mausoleum. Arrangements by BRING'S MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 236 S. Scott.
