PRUST, Archie Leland (Papa)

The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 05/12/2006 Archie Leland Prust (KA7QPK), aka "Papa," died Thursday morning, April 27, 2006 in Lakeside. He was born May 14, 1935 in Stiles, Wisconsin to Carl and Ruby (Truckey) Prust. He was the sixth of 10 children. His brothers, Ray of Lakeside, Dave of Green Bay, sisters Ann Thibaudeau and Theresa Vandenberg, both of Green Bay, and Collette of Milwaukee, survive Archie. Besides his parents, brothers John and Chuck, and sisters Peg and Evy preceded Archie in death. Archie completed USMC Boot Camp and subsequently received an honorable medical discharge. He married Judy Manson on September 16, 1967 at St. Rosalia's Catholic Church, Sister Bay, Wisconsin, choosing then to move and settle in Arizona. The couple found the way to their beloved White Mountains April 1, 1970, where Arch built a home, raised and was a dad to two children: Joe of Mesa, and Maria (Mitch Garvin, Pinedale). He was Papa to his cherished grandkids, Michaela and Cory. Archie was an industrious provider at all times: farming with horse and tractor; carpentering and wiring houses; operating heavy equipment. He was a Master Mechanic, a masonry helper, and drove trucks of many sizes. He immensely enjoyed his shop, Ham radio and electronics of all sorts. He often said, "I'm a jack of all trades, a master of none." We, who knew him well, disagree. In 2005, Arch was proud to receive his Pioneer (lifetime) Hunt and Fish License. A man for all seasons, his measure was pressed down and overflowing. Arch took friendship seriously. A quiet man of huge patience, he had a rare sense of fairness, honor and generosity, embracing the gifts of his faith, family and friends with enthusiasm. Facing his many lifelong disabilities and trials with faith-filled courage, wit and humor, he would say under his breath, "Archie, you just need to do it", "This too shall pass", and "Just accept it!" Arch spent his life living in the present moment without blame or regret. Thanks be to God, we have been privileged to walk beside him and share in his journey...each of us has a unique personal memory of him to cherish... For the respect, kindness, support and love shown to Archie and ourselves in countless ways: "Thank you" to each of you in the families of Navapache Regional Medical Center, RTA Hospice, St. Rita's Catholic Church, and Owens Mortuary; to family, friends and neighbors: "Thanks for the ride! Archie is safely home!" Owens Mortuary of Show Low handled the arrangements.
