MCCARTY, James D. (Jim)

The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 05/12/2006 James D. (Jim) McCarty, a White Mountain icon, died May 9, 2006 at the age of 75. Jim put the Christmas lights on the Victorian, sang around the campfire, worked in mysterious ways, loved the game, cared about the little guy, quoted Shakespeare and sailed the seven seas, but he never took his heart from the White Mountains. No life in the White Mountains was untouched by the work of the mischievous Irishman that's destined to become an area legend. He believed in living life to the fullest and in that quest as in his business life he was a consummate success. He is survived by Gwen Knadel, his partner of 28 years, daughters Liz McCarty (Howard Jones), Victoria McCarty and Kathy Fish (Mike Fish). He has six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Sunday, May 14 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Owen's Mortuary in Show Low. An 8:30 a.m. visitation will precede a 10 a.m. service Monday, May 15 at 10 a.m. at the church directly across from his beloved Victorian building at the corner of Highways 60 and 260 (Deuce of Clubs and Clark Road) in Show Low at the gateway to the White Mountains.
