The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 05/16/2006 Norma Jean Thompson, 49, of Fort Defiance died May 10, 2006. She was born in Ganado May 15, 1956. Norma grew up and attended elementary school in Steamboat, then Kinlichee for middle school and she graduated from high school in 1976 at Fort Wingate. Following high school, Norma worked in Holbrook, making jewelry while attending NPC. Afterwards, she worked at a daycare center in Ft. Defiance. Norma then was working as a nursing assistant at the Fort Defiance Indian Hospital, where she worked for 27 years up until her passing. She enjoyed sewing, needlepoint, making jewelry, and riding horses. Norma is survived by her husband, Stephen E. Thompson of Fort Defiance; sons Craig Stephen Thompson of Phoenix, Troy Allen Thompson of Fort Defiance; daughter Stephanie Rose Thompson of Fort Defiance; her father Frances Begay of Steamboat; brothers Roland Begay of Farmington, NM, Eugene Begay of Beaumont, CA, Glenn Allen Begay of Hemet, Calif., Yulando Begay of Holbrook; sisters Nora Pahi of Holbrook, Ester Begay of Greasewood, Hazel Sivers of Greasewood, Carol Jean Begay of Steamboat, Alfreda Kinlicheenie of Beaumont, Calif., Tina Rose Alejandro of Fort Irwin, Calif. Lyda Mae Perez of Phoenix, Rolene Begay of Phoenix; and two grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday May 13 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Ganado.
