The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 05/19/2006 Josefa "Josie" Hidalgo White, 92, died at her home in St. Johns May 10, 2006. She was born in Folsom, N.M. May 16, 1913, but lived out her life in St. Johns. Josie's life was full and active. She picked cotton, worked in a box factory, worked in a hospital as a nurse, and was honored as a lifetime member of the America Legion Auxiliary. Her survivors include her daughters, Corina Romero-Dodge (Calvin) of St. Johns, Rose K. Chavez (Bob) of St. Johns; and Lucille K. Tafoya (Edmundo) of St. Johns; 29 grandchildren; 65 great grandchildren and 46 great-great grandchildren. Preceding her in death was her husband, Milton D. White; son, Horacio Martinez; grandsons, Joseph Romero, Robert Chavez and Anthony Martinez; brothers, Antonio Hidalgo, Apolonio Hidalgo, and Andres Hidalgo; sisters, Cecilia Hidalgo, Ulalia Hidalgo, Maria Hidalgo; and her parents, Apolonio and Maria Andrea (Medina) Hidalgo. A rosary was held for Josie Monday, May 15 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. A funeral mass was celebrated Tuesday, May 16, 2006. She was laid to rest in the St. Johns Catholic Cemetery. Burnham Mortuary handled the arrangements.
