The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 05/19/2006 Faye Shumway Smith, 66, slipped peacefully into the arms of her Heavenly Father, May 16, in Orem. Faye was born June 6, 1939 in Snowflake, to Charles Purley and Belle Brinkerhoff Shumway. She was one of 18 children raised in Woodruff. She married Richard Albert Smith April 2, 1956, in Woodruff. Their marriage was later solemnized in October of 1982 in the Los Angeles LDS Temple. They are the parents of four children, Tim Smith, Manti, Connie (Don) Gardner, Snowflake, Rodney Smith, Ventura, Calif., and Crystal Alvarez, Ventura, Calif.; two grandchildren, Cody Smith, Wisc., and Tristan Alvarez, Ventura, Calif. Faye and her husband Dick raised their family in southern California, moving from Ventura, Calif., and then to Manti, Utah, when Dick retired from Gibbs International in July of 1998. They recently completed a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Detroit, Michigan. Faye was loved by many and will be greatly missed. She is also survived by her siblings, Walter (Joyce) Shumway, Mesa, Lee Shumway, Yucca Valley, Calif., Royd (Carmen) Shumway, Mesa, Beth (Joy) Pearce, Show Low, Rosalie (Jim) Irwin, Woodruff, Kaye Shumway, Manti, Mina (Hal) Evans, Arcadia, Calif., Dean (Barbara) Shumway, Snowflake, Owen (Janet) Shumway, Farmington, Mont., Eric Shumway, Chandler, Doyle (Janice) Shumway, Snowflake, Gerry Shumway, Woodruff; brothers-in-law, Harold (Joyce) Bahr, Mesa, Jim Haggard, Alma (Connie) Judd, Mesa, and Austin (Cathy) Rice, Kaysville. She was preceded in death by siblings, Nina Shumway; Freda Bahr; Luella Haggard; Alice Judd; OraBelle Rice. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 20 at noon in the Manti 2nd LDS Ward Chapel, 295 South Main, Manti. Friends may call at the Magleby Mortuary, in Manti, Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. and at the ward chapel in Manti Saturday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Manti City Cemetery.
