Ishmael "Mel" Alvarez
Born December 1, 1931, died May 11, 2005. He served in the Korean War, in Company A 17th Armed Engineers Battalion, where he received the Army of Occ Medal (Germany). Mel was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 4903 and American Legion Post 68. He had been employed as an electrician in various counties including, Sulphur Springs Valley Electric Cooperative, Inc. and as a heavy equipment mechanic. Preceded in death by his loving parents, Francisco and Margarita; loving son, Brian Joseph and loving brother, Alvaro. Survived by his children, Melvina Marie (Arturo) Alvarez-Noriega, Leonardo I., Patricia Ann, Manuel Alex and Michael Anthony Alvarez, the mother of his children, Armida Ruiz-Alvarez; sister, Enedina; brothers, Frederico "Fred" and Ruben; grandchildren, Adrian Adolpho Figueroa, Arturo Ishmael, Dimas and Reynaldo Noriega, Priscilla (Alvarez), Manuel Jr., and Michael; great-grandchildren, Briana Monique Figueroa and Lucas Arturo Noriega.
Visitation will be held Friday, May 20th from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY. A funeral Mass will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Parish. Burial will follow at South Lawn Cemetery. Entrusted to the care of SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY.
