Helen Etta
Helen Etta Fickel, age 95, went to be with Our Lord on Saturday, June 12, 2010.
Helen was born in Chanute, Kansas, January 29, 1915. Helen and her husband, Frank retired to Tucson in 1977. Frank passed away in 1999.
Helen then moved to Citrus Heights, California to live near her sister, daughter and son. Soon after her sister passed away Helen did not feel comfortable living in her senior apartment and decided to move to Robert Creek Villa (a Board and Care Facility).
Two of Helen's grandchildren preceded her to the Lord, Frank Taylor Fickel and Holly Anne Fickel.
Helen is survived by her four children, Charles Fickel (Janet), of White Mountain Lake, Arizona, Lester Fickel(Chilton Janet), of Pahoa, Hawaii, Barbara Wieland (Roger), of West Point, California, and Ronald Fickel (Barbara), of Lincoln, California; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Helen was an avid reader and an author of children's stories. She was a quilter and made many quilts for her children and grandchildren. She was quite the crafter and also loved her garden.
Helen was an Oblate of St. Benedict and a devote Catholic. She was also a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Post 4903 in Tucson. She was a copywriter for Sears and Roebuck for 25 years.
Services will be held at St. Pius X Church on Saturday, June 19, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. Interment at All Faiths Memorial Park (Our Lady of the Desert).
