William Clayton
Merlyn Clayton Large passed away February 24, 2007 in Tucson, Arizona where he had been a resident since 1991.
He was born September 9, 1915 at Torrington, Wyoming, son of Jonah and Susan Large. He married Ruth Oltmanns at Lincoln, Illinois June 1946. Survivors: wife, Ruth; son, Dr. John and wife, Bonnie of Tucson; daughter, Janet and husband, Duane Goble of Tucson; two grandchildren, Colin and Kristen and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, three brothers and two half-brothers. He was a veteran of World War II and served in both the European and the Pacific Theatres as a Captain with the 86th Blackhawk Infantry Division. He retired from the University of Illinois in 1986. He was a member of the Fountain of Life Lutheran Church of Tucson.
Visitation 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., Thursday, March 1, 2007 with funeral services at 4:30 p.m. at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway. Burial with military honors 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 2, 2007 at All Faith's Memorial Park, 2151 S. Avenida Los Reyes.
