CALDWELL, D.G. (Dutch)


The Arizona Daily Star, December 14, 2003 Deceased Name: D.G. "Dutch" Caldwell August 4, 1927 - December 11, 2003 Dutch was born in Dombey, Oklahoma to J.D. and Vergie Caldwell and lead an extraordinary life. He served honorably in the U.S. Army during W.W.II. He was an exceptional people person and touched many lives teaching, mentoring, and supervising in Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas, Alaska, and 23 years on the Navajo Reservation (Many Farms, Chinle, and Ganado, AZ). He enjoyed family and nature as an avid fisherman, hunter and Boy Scout Troop Leader. He and his wife sponsored a Christian Youth Group in their home on the Navajo Reservation for 17 years, where their home was open to many youth who came to know Christ. Upon retirement, he moved to Tucson where he was active in the Catalina United Methodist Church and the Pima County Retired Teachers Association. Any additional time he used to continue his hobbies of fishing, RVing, gardening, and carving stone and wood. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Martha Cooksey Caldwell and three children, Ellen (Steve) Oberholtzer, James (Lorel) Caldwell, and Edward (Lisa) Caldwell and five grandchildren, Susanna and John Oberholtzer, Kailey, Rachel and Marissa Caldwell. He is also survived by two brothers, J.W. (Shirley) Caldwell and James (Gaye) Caldwell and four sisters, Donita (Lester) Sparks, Coeta Caldwell, Veta (William) Colvin, and Joanne (Donald) Potter. Memorial services will be held at 300 p.m. on Tuesday, December 16, at Catalina United Methodist Church, 2700 E. Speedway. Memorial donations can be made to Catalina United Methodist Church and Society Missions.
