DARCY, Margaret Ruth


Arizona Daily Star, Tucson, AZ) - June 25, 2007 Margaret Ruth Darcy died on June 22, 2007 at Tucson Medical Center Hospice. She was preceded in death by her husband Lyman Darcy, her sister Eleanore Benninghoff, and brother George Houk. She was born on March 11, 1917, on a small farm in Spencerville, Indiana. Ruth moved to Tucson in 1953 when her husband began working at Hughes Aircraft Company. She had attended Defiance College in Ohio prior to her marriage and continued her education at the University of Arizona; graduating in 1968 with a degree in education. She was a teacher at Mary Dill School in the Altar Valley School District and retired in 1989. Teaching was the love of her life. She was also a volunteer at Casa de los Ninos and Youth on Their Own. She has been an active member of Catalina United Methodist Church for fifty years. Survived by her children Mike (Linda), Kelly (Bill Godfrey), Jinx (Dick Root), Patrick (Judy), and Sally (Martin Willett). She was a loving grandmother to fourteen grandchildren Kent, Eric, Julie; Mark, Keri, Casey; Brian, Kevin, Allison; Kimberly, Ryan, Kathleen; Hannah and Clay; and seven great-grandchildren. Margaret Malchow, a close family friend, also survives her. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at TMC Hospice. A memorial and celebration of her life will be held at Catalina United Methodist Church 2700 E. Speedway, on Tuesday, June 26, 2007 at 400 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Casa de los Ninos, Youth on Their Own, or the charity of your choice.
