A memorial service was held on September 19, 2002, at Catalina United Methodist Church, where she had been an active member for many years. Ms. Lynch, a faculty member in the College of Nursing from 1962 until her retirement in 1981, taught medical surgical and leadership nursing in the baccalaureate program. She participated in many community activities including home health care and continuing education programs. An endowment set up by Lillian Lynch provides annual scholarships to undergraduate nursing students selected by the Dean. Ms. Lynch received her BSN from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland and her MA in Administration and Education from the University of New Mexico. Her nursing experiences included positions as a staff nurse at the Cleveland Clinic Hospital, head surgical nurse at the VA Hospital in Albuquerque, and Education Officer for the US Public Health Service in Albuquerque. In New Mexico she was recognized for her efforts to improve the health of Native Americans. Ms. Lynch served with distinction in the Army Nurse Corps in both Africa and Europe in World War II, attaining the rank of Major. Throughout her career, Lillian Lynch made significant contributions to the promotion of excellence in nursing practice and nursing education.
