Teh Arizona Daily Star, March 18, 1991 Deceased Name: Memorial service tomorrow for John Mazzolini A 3 p.m. memorial service for John Mazzolini, a retired captain in the United States Navy, will be held tomorrow at the Catalina United Methodist Church, 2700 E. Speedway. Mazzolini died Tuesday. He was 62. Before moving to Tucson in 1981, Mazzolini served in the Navy for 30 years. He was the recipient of numerous awards, including the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal and two Navy Commendation Medals. He ended his career as the inspector general of the Defense Nuclear Agency in Washington, D.C. He was an active member of Catalina United Methodist Church, where he helped start a cancer support group. He also participated in the Living with Cancer support group at the Arizona Cancer Center. Mazzolini served as president of both the Catalina Foothills Estates and Catalina Foothills associations. He belonged to numerous other organizations, including the Neighborhood Coalition of Greater Tucson, the Citizen Advisory Committee-River Road Project and the Groundwater Users Advisory Council. He is survived by his wife, Martha, and three children, Jacqueline Lesnewski, of Tucson, and Joele White and Andy Mazzolini of Phoenix; his mother, Eleanore Sarkis, of Tucson; and two grandchildren, Dayna White and Michael Lesnewski. The family suggests donations be made to the John A. Mazzolini Memorial Fund, Catalina United Methodist Church, 2700 E. Speedway, Tucson 85716.
