Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, Arizona Published Wednesday, June 24, 2009 Nov. 20, 1929 — June 15, 2009 After a long courageous battle with cancer, Shirley Richardson, a long time winter resident of Lake Havasu City, peacefully passed away at her home on June 15, 2009, surrounded by her loving family. She was 79 years old. Shirley grew up in Pasadena, Calif., then on to college in Santa Barbara – UCSB. She was an active member of Pi Phi sorority. She graduated with a degree in art and became an accomplished artist of oils, watercolors and pen and ink. Shirley and her late husband were often found following their passions at antique tool meets and Dixieland jazz festivals all around the country. Shirley was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church and loved volunteering and offering her support to various groups – including grief share group and was a member of the church team “Relay for Life” for three years. She was a pillar of strength, optimism and inspiration to many others who were fighting cancer. She was also an active member of the Havasu Art Guild and the Lake Havasu Lighthouse Club. She kept busy using her art talents for both groups. She painted watercolor scenes of each lighthouse as it was dedicated. Shirley will be remembered for her vivacious zest for life, her generous nature and selfless spirit and her strong devotion to Christ. She is survived by her twin sister, Audie Raap; three grown kids, Dan, Ron and Lisa; three grandsons, Zack, Campbell and Andrew; and countless friends, relatives and pets who will sorely miss her. In Lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to Hospice of Havasu or Calvary Baptist Church “Next Generation Fund”. A Special Memorial Service will be arranged for late fall or winter.
