BEAULIEU, Dorothy (Diddy)

Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Sunday, November 13, 2005 Borothy (Diddy) Beaulieu Born in rural Morris, Minn., Diddy was the first in her family to attend college. After graduating from the University of Minnesota in 1933, she taught school for a few years before being hired by George Hormel, President of the Hormel Corp., as his secretary. She married in 1940 and in 1949 the family, by then including two small boys, was lured by the call of the wild to Anchorage, Alaska. In 1960, Diddy was asked by the Editor of the Anchorage Daily Times to replace his assistant for 90 days while she was on maternity leave. Twenty-six years later, she retired from the newspaper. In the intervening years, Diddy was an integral part ofthe political and social circles in Alaska. A life-long Republican, she was also active in the League of Women Voters and various civic organizations. During a year-long sabbatical in Tucson in 1965, Diddy rediscovered warm weather and developed a love of the desert. So, finally tiring of the long Alaskan winters, she decided to move back to Arizona and after diligent research concluded that Prescott was the place to be, a decision she never regretted. From the terrace of her condo on the Municipal Golf Course, she had a panoramic view of Mt. Humphrey, and she used to drive into Prescott just to enjoy Willow Creek Road or Granite Dells. Although retired from professional life, Diddy continued with volunteer work at the Prescott Library and teaching English to new immigrants. Diddy passed away quietly on Nov. 4. She is survived by her son, Paul who lives in France. It was her wish, that anyone choosing to do so to make a donation to Habitat for Humanity or a charity of their choice in her memory.
