HOFFMAN, Mason Edward


Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, Arizona Published Wednesday, June 24, 2009 Mason Edward Hoffman, born Sept. 24, 1988, in Fontana, Calif., and raised in Lake Havasu City, died surrounded by his family on June 14, 2009, in Los Angeles, following a long battle with lung disease. His parents, Dale Hoffman and Janet Harris, as well as three siblings, grandparents, aunt, uncles, nephew and cousins survive him. At age 15, Mason took flying lessons at the local airport, logging enough instructed hours to be eligible for a pilot’s license. He completed high school at age 16 at Lake Havasu High and attended Mojave Community College. He participated in numerous sports and was a talented motocross racer, winning his division in the WORCS series in 2005. In January 2006, Mason was diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension and then in May 2006, with a rare form of lung disease, veno-occlusive. In June 2006, he received a double lung transplant. Mason was very active in the Pulmonary Hypertension Association as well as the transplant “community.” He was an inspiration and loved by many. He will be missed. Services are scheduled for Saturday, 2 p.m. at the Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home, located at 21 Riviera Blvd., in Lake Havasu City. In lieu of flowers, please become an organ donor and send donations in Mason’s name to the Pulmonary Hypertension Association at phassociation.org.
