Verdin C. Krause, 85, passed away Saturday, May 30, 2009, in Lake Havasu City. He was born on March 16, 1924, in Hope, Kan., to Karl and Magdalena (Fick) Krause.
Following high school, Verdin went to serve his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. Verdin was in the Marine Corps from Aug. 11, 1943, until March 5, 1946. In 1950, he became a member of the U.S. Naval Reserve, serving from Jan. 29, 1950 until Nov. 1, 1951.
Verdin and his family lived in Southern California, where he worked for North American Rockwell in El Segundo for 33 years. Twenty-four years ago, Verdin and his wife Evelyn moved to Lake Havasu City from Leona Valley, Calif.
He enjoyed boating, fishing and camping on the lake. He also loved to tinker in his garage and made the most beautiful stained glass. Verdin was a member of the Elks Lodge 2399, American Legion Post 81, V.F.W. Post 9401, and Eagles Aerie and was active and will be deeply missed by the Lake Havasu Detachment of the Marine Corps League.
Verdin is survived by his wife of 62 years, Evelyn; son, Ron Krause and his wife Marianne, of Palmdale, Calif.; daughters, Myrna Mahin, of Denton, Tex., Patti Kimball, of Sonoma, Calif.; brothers, Wilber Krause, of El Camino Village, Calif., Junior Krause, of Turlock, Calif.; grandchildren, Wes Mahin, Sheila Chumley, Lynette Walker, Justin Sias, Heath Sias, Michelle Krause, Joe Krause; as well as great-grandchildren, Sean Chumley, Ethan Chumley, Kaylee Walker, Mason Mahin and Anna Jo Walker.
A Celebration of Verdin’s life will be at Lietz-Fraze Chapel Wednesday at 11 a.m. Rev. Richard Rounds will offer words of comfort and inspiration. The Lake Havasu Detachment of the Marine Corps League will provide military honors.
