GURLEY, Wayne


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 06/06/2006 Wayne Gurley, 76, of Lakeside, died Wednesday, May 31, 2006, at RTA Hospice and Palliative Care in Lakeside. Wayne was born April 9, 1930, at Guymon, Okla., the son of Robert and Amanda (Ross) Gurley. He lived in several states before settling in Phoenix over 50 years ago. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a self employed optician for many years. He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge No. 335 in Phoenix, where he was the youngest Exalted Ruler, serving in 1966-1967. He married Babette Burton Aug. 20, 1977 in Las Vegas. They came to the White Mountains 18 years ago. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of Show Low Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge No. 2090. Survivors include his wife, Babette; son, David (Danielle) Gurley of Phoenix; granddaughter, Hunter Gurley of Phoenix; grandson, Dustin Gurley of Prescott. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife JoAnn and eight brothers and sisters. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Black's Mortuary, Show Low.
