MCNAUL, Barbara Jane Col.

Barbara, a resident of Green Valley since 1981, joined her beloved "Mac" (Winfield Herman McNaul, deceased, Col. U. S. Army-Ret.) and their Miniature Schnauzer, Tyler, in final peace and rest. Barbara passed in her beautiful home with the things she loved surrounding her. Barbara graduated from high school in Eugene, Ore. and then received her teaching degrees from University of Oregon. She taught high school history and English for the next 10 years in Hawaii and Oregon. When teaching was no longer a challenge and thrill, upon seeing a recruiting poster she was off and running in a new career that would take her to Korea, Japan, Hawaii and from coast to coast here in the United States. Barbara was a pioneer in her military career. She was the first woman aide-de-camp to the Commanding General of the South Pacific. Her duties ranged from being sure the general and wife had the proper attire, in immaculate condition, for the latest social event. It was her job to make sure the military etiquette protocol was strictly followed. She planned the menu, the table decorations and then stood for hours with a smile on her face. The WACS under her command and tutelage were "Her Girls," and she loved every exciting minute. Barbara retired from the military in 1972, and lived in Tacoma, Wash. until moving to Green Valley. She and Mac played golf, enjoying their time with each other, Tyler, and their beautiful home filled with things brought back from the Orient. After Mac passed, she became a volunteer at the Titan Missile Museum for approximately 10 years. Her final days were made easier with the assistance of Heartland Hospice and their wonderful, caring staff. A special thanks to "Fritzi" at Heartland, her attorney Richard Duffield, and relief caregiver Grace Gowett. As Barbara started her new journey into the unknown, Grace held her hand and recited the Rosary while playing soft Christmas carols in the background. The lights were lit on the Christmas tree by the side of her bed, and candles burning, to guide the angels to one of their own.
