Arizona Daily Star, 10 July 2005 William G. Starr Pilot, USAF Ret. Maj and Ret NYLIC Agent, CLU (Financial Planner) William "Bill" G. Starr, 83, died on July 4, 2005. It was a fitting date for a distinguished war veteran and US patriot to leave. He was born on May 17, 1922, in Chicago, IL. He was a devoted husband and a wonderful, loving father. Survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Jeanne C. Starr; sons, William and Richard (Theresa) Starr; daughter, Patricia Starr- (David) Hebeisen; grandchildren, Marla (David) Yelovich, Mark, R.T. and Brian (Aris) Starr, and Eric Hebeisen; and great-granddaughter, Ashley Faith Yelovich; Also, former son-in-law, Hector Bustamante. Preceded in death by infant son, Thomas; daughter, Susan Starr Bustamante; and daughter-in-law, Julia (William) Starr. Bill's first career was as a distinguished and highly decorated pilot and instructor pilot with the USAF. Due to his modesty, not many knew of his WWII adventures and decorations as a B-17 bomber pilot, his 150 missions in the Berlin Airlift, his assignment in the diplomatic wing (Pres. Eisenhower's second pilot), his service in the "secret squadron", etc. His second career was as a NYLIC agent (CLU), and financial planner. He was an avid volunteer; a Rotarian, and Minister of the Eucharist/Lector at St. Joseph Catholic Church for 35 years. Bill's wonderful character (high standards, morals, ethics) won him many friends. The high regard he felt for those friends/ associates, was returned in kind, due to his own modesty and respect for others. Special thanks were previously mentioned in the original notices of July 7. Other thanks belong to Fr. Thomas O'Flannigan (best friend, and retired pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church), and Fr. John Allt (current pastor). Funeral mass will be at 12:00 noon, Monday, July 11, 2005 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 215 S. Craycroft. Following will be a Remembrance Celebration at St. Joseph Parish Hall.
