Arthur V. Urias Born July 13, 1928 Died November 6, 2009
Son of the late Arthur Bejarano Urias and Ernestina (Valencia) Urias, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rae (Morrow).
Well known to the Tucson community as a baseball player for Safford Junior High and Tucson High, and later for the Allianza Semi-Pro Team, Art also played softball for the top-rated Knotty Pines team. He was inducted into the Southern Arizona Softball and Baseball Association Hall of Fame. As a youth, Art worked in a meat market, at Crescent Smoke Shop downtown, and as an usher, doorman and an assistant manager in local theaters. After working part time, Art began his career with the Tucson Parks and Recreation Department in 1955, where he was employed at various positions. Between 1978 and 1989, he worked primarily at the Armory Senior Center, but briefly returned to an administrative position with Tucson Parks and Rec. In addition, he was director of the Southern Arizona District Non-Pro Baseball Tournament, and he developed a senior softball league in Tucson.
Visitation will be at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway, on Friday, November 13, 2009, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at 9:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Our Lady of the Desert Cemetery.
