Howard A. Davis, 78 of Show Low, died June 4, 2006 at Infinia Care Center.
He was born July 2, 1927 in Modesto, Calif. where he attended school. Following school, he enlisted in the army where he served in Japan during WWII. After the war, he returned to California and opened a service station in Ceres. He then met and later married Darleen Schmidt.
Howard and his wife moved to Phoenix in 1956 where he worked for Motor Replacement. They discovered the beauty of the White Mountains in 1965 and moved to Show Low that same year. Howard worked as a mechanic for a few years, and then he worked for the public schools as a bus driver and mechanic until he retired in 1984. In retirement, he continued to work as a mechanic out of his home.
Howard is survived by his wife, Darleen Davis, of Show Low; three sons, Gary Davis of Fresno, Calif., Jim Davis of Show Low, and Mark Davis of Winnemucca, Nev.; one daughter, Mary Stokes of Cross, S.C.; one brother, Ernie Davis of Los Lunas, N.M.; one sister, Dona Phelps of Fresno, Calif.; 12 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
