Eileen Hoshaw MacKay, 80, of Snowflake, died June 11, 2006, at her residence.
She was born Aug. 22, 1925, in Danville, Ill., the daughter of Forrest and Mildred Hoshaw. On Aug. 14, 1948, she married John MacKay in Brookston, Indiana, and he survives her. Mrs. MacKay was a homemaker and was affiliated with the Methodist Church for much of her life. She obtained her schooling in the Delphi and Brookston, Indiana, systems and later attended Purdue University as a continuing education student.
Most of her life was spent in the Lafayette and Delphi, Indiana, area before moving, with her husband and daughter, to Snowflake in 2004. She had a lifelong interest in bird watching, gardening, wildlife observation and other outdoor activities. Before coming down with rheumatoid arthritis in her mid-70s, she was an avid quilter, producing many lovely quilts for her home and as gifts for the grandchildren.
Surviving with her husband are a daughter, Susan MacKay of Snowflake; three sons, James MacKay (Jenice) of Madison, Wis., Jack MacKay (Pam) of Phoenix, Arizona, and Scott MacKay (Patricia) of Austin, Texas; two brothers, David Hoshaw of West Lafayette, Ind., and Dennis Hoshaw of Philadelphia, Pa.; two sisters, Linda Brammell of Frankfort, Ind., and Judith Lutchka of Greencastle, Ind.; and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
A family memorial will be held in Snowflake in the fall. Memorials may be made to Heifer International, a charity which provides starter livestock and livestock education to people in need in rural areas worldwide.
