WALKUP, Veston


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 06/30/2006 Veston Walkup, 66 of Concho, died June 28, 2006. He was born in Roland, Okla. Veston grew up in San Joaquin Valley, Calif. He graduated from Mountain View High School near San Francisco. Following high school he attended carpenter's school and completed his training ahead of schedule. He then stayed in that area and worked as a carpenter for about 25 years. After that, he went to work for the Public Works Departments in Olympia, Washington. He stayed in Washington for 5 years before moving to Las Vegas, returning to construction work. In 1993, he was injured on the job and was forced to retire. In retirement, he traveled many places, finally settling in Concho. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, and woodworking. Veston is survived by his wife, Carol Walkup of Concho; sons Steve Walkup of Chandler, and Randy Walkup of Las Vegas, Nev.; five brothers, Chester of Yuma, Dallas of Mesa, Arlon of Las Vegas, Edmond of Antioch, Calif., and Danny of Las Vegas; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 3 at 2 p.m. at Owens Mortuary of Show Low, with visitation one hour prior to service. Owens Mortuary of Show Low handled the arrangements.
