Leo E. Huffman October 15, 1919 — April 19, 2009 Today's News-Herald, Lake havasu City, Arizona Published Monday, May 4, 2009 Leo Huffman was a resident of Lake Havasu since he retired from the L.A. Flood Control District as an electrician in 1975. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a chief radio operator aboard the USS Bismarck Sea. His ship was sunk during the night of Feb. 21, 1945, by two kamikazes within two minutes of each other while they were participating in the Iwo Jima operation. Leo always enjoyed reuniting with the survivors of the USS Bismarck Sea each year at various locations in the United States. Leo attended Pomona High School in California, where he met his sweetheart, and soon to be wife, Evalyn (Doctor) Huffman. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Ruth Huffman; two nephews, Rand Huffman and Russ Neher, and their wives Vicky and Mary respectively; two nieces, Francie Lorey and Donna Weaver; six great-nieces, four great-nephews; six great-great-nieces and five great-great-nephews.
