KAUFMANN, August F. (Gus)


Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg Arizona May 29, 1980 August “Gus” F. Kaufmann, 92, of Wickenburg was one of three victims in a two car collision at US 60 and Union Hills at 8:45 p.m. on May 18. His son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Thelma Kaufmann who own and operate TK’s Hallmark Shop in Wickenburg were also in the car. As of Tuesday May 27, Mrs. Kaufmann was in the intensive care unit at St. Joseph’s Hospital, and Mr. Kaufmann was in stable condition. The other two victims were the driver of the second vehicle, William R. Hammock, Tenn., and his passenger Donald Wolfe, Indiana. According to a DPS report, the Kaufmann vehicle, driven by Mr. Wayne Kaufman was westbound on US 60 when Hammock, eastbound crossed the centerline, almost hitting another vehicle, before striking the Kaufmann car. The report also stated that it would have been impossible for Mr. Kaufmann to avoid the collision. August F. Kaufmann was born in Pennsylvania and was a retired time keeper for Alcoa Corp. He had lived in Wickenburg for six years. He is survived by his son Wayne Kaufmann and his daughter-in-law Thelma Kaufmann; a granddaughter, Nancy Marshall of Tucson; and a grandson. Services were held May 22 at 7:30 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Burial was Saturday, May 24 at Green Hills Cemetery in San Pedro, California.
