WALTERS, Fred J.


Fred J. Walters, 71, passed away quietly Tuesday, April 7, 2009, in Las Vegas. He was born in Sullivan County, Ind., to Alfred and Hazel Walters on May 17, 1937. He owned the Cloverdale IGA for 15 years before selling it and moving to Lake Havasu City, where he has lived for the past 24 years. He has been an active Elks member for 35 years here in Lake Havasu City, as well as in Greencastle, Ind. He was also a member of the Cloverdale Masonic Lodge. He worked as a greens keeper at London Bridge Golf Course for the past 10 years. He enjoyed fishing, golf, gardening and off-roading in the desert with friends and family. Fred had an infectious smile and warm personality and will be missed deeply by all who know him. His is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sandra, and their five children, Mike Walters, of Lehigh Acres, Fla., Dianne Greer, of Corona, Calif., Steve Walters, of Cloverdale, Ind., Melissa Walters, of Lake Havasu City, and Susan Myers, of Collierville, Tenn.; several grandchildren and many friends. There will be a memorial service Wednesday, at 10 a.m., at the Elks Club. Friends and members are welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Havasu.
