Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, Arizona Published Thursday, April 9, 2009 Elizabeth A. (Feeney) Hess, 88, loving and devoted wife of the late Robert E. Hess, died peacefully March 14, 2009. Betty was born Nov. 19, 1920, in Boston, Mass., to the late Elizabeth Howley Feeney and James J. Feeney. Betty was raised in Roslindale, and graduated from Roslindale High School in 1938. Betty owned and operated Bette’s Coiffures Beauty Salon of Bridgewater, Mass., for more than 10 years. She was also the last housemother of Bridgewater State College, retiring in 1994. Betty enjoyed gardening and always surrounded her home with her favorite rhododendrons, irises and tulips. Betty and Bob enjoyed traveling and fell in love with Lake Havasu City. The two purchased land here and Betty built a house where she lived for seven years. She loved having her children and friends visit her in the desert. Betty was a member of The St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Women’s Club, The Golden Ager’s in Bridgewater, GFWC, in both Massachusetts and Arizona. She was past president and treasurer of the Ousamequin Club. Betty also loved line dancing and was an active participant in groups in Bridgewater and Lake Havasu City. Betty was the loving wife of the late Robert E. Hess; loving and caring mother of James F. (Lorenna), of Virginia, Robert E. (Sandy), of Virginia, Pamela M. (Robert) Hess-Marcucci, of N.J., Elizabeth A. (Michael), of Bridgewater, and Joel R. (Maureen), of Bridgewater; sister of Maureen David, of Virginia, the late Marie Aldridge and John Feeney; proud grandmother of James, Laura, Morgan, Robert IV, Blair, Elizabeth, Michael, Mark, Shannon, Cameron, Ryon and Lauron; and great-grandmother of four. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Basil’s Chapel, Bridgewater State College, Bridgewater, on Sunday at 1 p.m. The family has invited family and friends to a reception next to the chapel following the Mass. Interment is private. Betty’s energy, love for flowers, enthusiasm for life and love of adventure will be remembered always by those she leaves behind.
