TAYLOR, Florence I.


Florence I. Taylor 89, passed away on June 29, 2010. Preceded in death by her husband, Richmond; sons, Wayne and Larry; and three brothers, Larry, Merton and Elbert Hebbard; and grandson, Joel Taylor. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Sandra Taylor; three brothers, Wayne, Earl and Miles Hebbard; four grandchildren, Bryan, Amanda, Christopher and Matthew Taylor; and seven great-grandchildren. Florence was born in Binghamton, NY, and she and her husband moved to Tucson in 1985. A graduate of Cortland State Teachers college in 1943 she pursued a 33 year teaching career in elementary and special education programs, and retired from teaching in 1976 after receiving the Valley Forge Freedom Foundations Teacher of the Year Award. She was an active member in the VFW Ladies Auxiliary having served as her local and county's Ladies President, and then rising through the ranks of the national organization to become the National President of the Auxiliary 1982 to 1983. Till the day of her death she remained active in the VFW especially promoting the Ladies Auxillary's Cancer and research programs. For the past 14 years she has lived in a senior community in which she was quite active in both the Home Owners Association and the park social group. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Auxillary's Cancer Fund through any VFW post in Tucson. Being the unobtrusive person that she was, she has requested no formal funeral service and arrangements for a Memorial Service are pending.
