HAMMER, Francis John (Sledge)

The Arizona Daily Star, April 26, 2009 Francis John "Sledge" Hammer, USAF Ret. Lt. Col. of Tucson, died April 23, 2009 at the age of 84 years. Born June 21, 1924 in Kingsley, Iowa. He was proud of his Irish heritage. USAF Ret. Lt. Colonel and retired from the UofA, as an Administrative Assistant of Student Health. Preceded in death by parents, Forest and Beatrice Hammer and a sister, Catherine Hammer. Survived by daughters, Christie Simons, Barbara (Michael) Norris, Teri (Rex) Scott, Diane Kenney and Mary (Danny) Kretschmer; sons, Greg (Mariana) and Michael (Robin) Hammer; one sister, Marcellina Sanders. Also survived by 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Memorial Services 300 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 7575 N. Paseo Del Norte, Tucson. Cremation by NEPTUNE SOCIETY (624-2726).
