LARSON, Ivan S.


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 07/11/2006 Ivan S. Larson, 93, died in the early morning hours of Saturday July 8, 2006 at RTA Hospice and Palliative Care Center in Lakeside. He was born April 23, 1923 in Snowflake, to the late Evan J. and Zella Stratton Larson. He attended Snowflake high school until his senior year, then moved to Winslow where he graduated in 1931. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Dallas, Texas. Ivan married Erna Shumway April 14, 1939 in the Mesa Arizona Temple. He was a volunteer fireman for the Town of Snowflake and worked as a fireman for the Santa Fe Railroad. He retired as construction operating engineer for Local 428 in 1976. He worked on just about every major road in Arizona. Following his retirement he stayed busy with construction projects in the White Mountain area. Ivan truly loved his family and was proud of his heritage. He will be missed by all. Ivan is survived by three sons, Monte S. (Barbara), Evan J. (Deanna), and Ivan G. (Shawna) all of Snowflake; and one daughter, Sandra (Kayle) Adams of Show Low; 23 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ilene Shumway and Minnie Arline both of Mesa and Ruby Gibson of Snowflake and one brother, Mack Larson of Mesa. He was preceded in death by his wife, Erna; a son, Wayne ; a daughter, Elaine Beaman; a brother, H. Larson and a sister Merlene Cummins. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 15 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Snowflake Main Street Chapel with a visitation one hour prior to services at the church and from 6-8 p.m. Friday, July 14 at Owens Mortuary in Snowflake.
