AUGUSTINE, Clarence Joseph (Augie)


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 07/18/2006 Clarence Joseph "Augie" Augustine died June 17, 2006 in Kingman. He was born Oct. 28, 1918 in Cleveland, Ohio to Clarence Joseph Augustine Sr. and Alice Berichon Augustine. He was raised in Cleveland, where he graduated from Shaw High School at the age of 16. After graduating, he continued his education at John Carroll University in University Heights, Ohio. From 1942-45, he served in the US Navy on the USS Du Page, an attack transport ship, earning the rank of Lieutenant JG. During WWII, he fought in the battles of Kwajalien, Marshal Islands, Guam, Ley Te Guf, Luzon, Okinawa, and Peleliu. Following the war, he married Joan Donnelly and they shared 48 years of marriage. He went on to obtain his MBA from the Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania. He then owned numerous businesses in the Cleveland area, and he and his family moved to Arizona in 1968. Following his retirement, he moved to Sedona in 1978 and then Kingman in 1993. He enjoyed golfing and bowling, and was also an avid gardener and an enthusiastic fisherman. He enjoyed taking trips to Las Vegas with his son Brian, and spent many summers in the White Mountains visiting his son Kurt and spending time with his grandchildren, teaching them how to fish. He was interned in the Kingman Mountain View Cemetery with full military honors June 22. His two sons, Kurt Augustine of Lakeside, Brian Augustine of Tempe; two grandchildren, Holly and Chelsea Augustine of Lakeside; and one brother, Raymond Augustine of North Ridgeville, Ohio, survive him.
