Robert R. Van Arsdale
Our beloved Bob lost his battle to COPD on Tuesday, June 29, 2010.
Born July 10, 1942, in New Jersey, Bob moved to Arizona at the age of 19. He loved the Southwest, and traveled it extensively over the years.
He settled in Kingman in the 1980s, and became the owner and manager of Angel's Restaurant in downtown Kingman. Many people still remember Bob as the original Angel, and enjoyed many pizzas handmade by him.
Bob moved on to become a poker dealer and floor man in Laughlin. He greatly enjoyed playing poker, but enjoyed even more teaching his grandchildren how to play.
He retired from the Riverside Casino to enjoy his family.
Bob met his wife Julie later in life. Although Bob and Julie were only given a few years together, each day was another opportunity to enjoy the love and adventure in life, which is what defined Bob. He loved to travel, and went on many great vacations and cruises, each one enjoyed as much as the next.
Bob is survived by his loving and beloved wife, Julie; son, Mark Sass and wife Dana; daughter, Angela Schmidt; and grandchildren, Naomi Champagne, Ty Sass, Katrina Schmidt, Colt Schmidt, Alfred Schmidt, Stephanie Saunders, Nicholas Steele and Kayla Coffman; and many great-grandchildren.
Bob is also survived by his father-in-law, Bob and wife Arda Rutherford; brothers-in-law, Steve Rutherford and wife Sue, and Bob Rutherford and wife Claudia, and all his nieces and nephews, who knew him as "Uncle New Bob." He will be greatly missed by us all.
Please join us at noon on Saturday, July 10, at the Dambar, for a Celebration of Life for Bob. This will not only be a celebration of Bob's life, but of his 68th birthday. Be prepared to share your favorite story, and wear your Hawaiian shirts!
