William E. Craig, 83, a former Wickenburg resident who served four terms in the Arizona House of Representatives, died Nov. 29 in the Gila Bend Medical Center.
While a representative Mr. Craig was the author and sponsor of the Motor Vehicle Code bill which is still in effect today. He was also sent to Washington, D.C. to receive approval for the Veterans Hospital in Phoenix.
He came to Wickenburg in the late 30’s and along with Pastor Charles Poling was the co-founder of the Wickenburg transient relief fund. He missed being a charter member of the Wickenburg Rotary Club by only a few months. He was also an active member of the Round Up Club.
Born in St. John’s and a graduate of ASU, he was an Army veteran of World War I.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth; sons William W., and Charles M., W. Gene and John F.; a brother; 12 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Mass was held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Joachim Catholic Church.
