STRATMAN, Jane


The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 07/28/2006 Jane Stratman died July 12, 2006 in Tucson. She was 84 years of age. Jane was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana. She spent 39 years in education as a teacher and administrator, and graduated from Butler University in 1944. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. Jane received her Master's Degree from Purdue University in 1951 and her Administrator's Certificate from the University of Arizona in 1970. Jane was active with the Camp Fire Girls in Indiana serving as Business Manager of their summer camp for five years. After teaching 10 years in Indiana, she moved to Tucson in 1954 and was a member of the staff at Tucson High School for one year. She then moved to Pueblo High School. After spending 13 years there, she accepted the Dean of Students' position at Sahuaro High School when it opened. Jane spent nine years there and moved to Pinetop in 1977 as Principal of Blue Ridge Junior High School. She retired in 1983. In Pinetop, Jane was an Elder in the Community Presbyterian Church as well as being active in the community. She served 12 years on the Blue Ridge School Board and eight years as President. She was also President of the Navajo Silent Witness Board for two years and served on the Board for 15 years. She served on the Ponderosa Water Board for 15 years. Jane was an avid golfer and served on the Women's Golf Association Board of Pinetop Country Club as Handicap Chairman, Publicity Chairman and Results Chairman. Jane is survived by two nieces, Charlene Hederick and Annette Graham; and two nephews, Gary and Joe Crawford. Also, three great-nephews Chad and Kevin Crawford, Ryan Smith, and a great-niece Stephany Bedolla. In addition, she had nine great, great nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held in Pinetop at the Community Presbyterian Church Sept. 17 at 2 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pinetop Community Presbyterian Church or the Blue Ridge Scholarship Fund.
