Albert Matthew Lane
Al Lane completed his earthly journey July 18, 2006 at home with his family (both human and animal) surrounded by love.
Al was born in Fort Collins, Colo. to a pioneering family of the West. He graduated from what became Colorado State University and joined the Army, as an officer, during WWII. He served in the Battle of the Bulge and received a Purple Heart, double cluster, a Bronze Star and several commendations for bravery and leadership. In 1953 he moved to Tucson to take a job with the UofA as the State Extension Livestock Specialist. Al raised his three children as a single dad until he remarried in 1967. He and his wife, Sallie Lynn Lane had three children. Al was always a devoted and loving father.
Al is known across the state for his unselfish work with local ranchers, 4-H, the Arizona Cattle Growers Assn., and numerous Native American concerns including serving as a consultant and Agricultural Board member for the San Carlos Apache Tribe for 11 years, an accomplishment of which he was very proud.
Al was preceded into heaven by his sons, Jim and Steven Scott, his granddaughter, Tammy, his parents and four of his six brothers and sisters. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Sallie, two sons, Brooke and Kier; two daughters, Pamela and Wendy; and five grandchildren.
A celebration of Al's life will be held in the Controlled Environment Agricultural Complex at the Campbell Avenue Farm Saturday, Sept. 16 at 1 p.m. If you cannot attend and would like to share an Al Lane story, write to: AlLaneMemorial@Yahoo.com or Pamela Lane @ 3111 4th St Box 303, Santa Monica, CA 90405.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Humane Society of Tucson or Therapeutic Riding of Tucson (TROT).
