Earle E. Murphy 96, of Wickenburg died April 1 in Wickenburg.
Mr. Murphy was born December 1, 1894 in St. Johnsbury, Vermont. He had lived in Arizona for the past 32 years.
Mr. Murphy came to Arizona in 1959, after retiring from the composing room of a Connecticut newspaper, where he worked for 40 years.
He was educated in St. Johnsbury and also at St. Bernard’s School in New Jersey.
In 1917 he enlisted in the Army and saw service in France, as a sergeant 1st class in the Signal Corps.
Following his discharge in 1919 he married Gladys Robie who preceded him in death in 1971.
In 1973 Mr. Murphy married Wilhelmina Strickland of Middletown, Connecticut who survives him.
Mr. Murphy was past commander of the Hassayampa Post, VFW and was also a member of the American Legion and Disabled American Veterans. He was a 60 year member of the International Typographical Union.
In additions to his wife, of Wickenburg, he is survived by a son, Earle Murphy, Jr. of Connecticut; a daughter, Mrs. Gladys Way of Wickenburg; six grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Services are scheduled at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 4 at the Wickenburg Funeral Home. Pastor James Longstreet of the First Presbyterian church will officiate.
Burial will be in the Mountain View Cemetery in Prescott.
