Carl “Doc” J. Streicher MD, 100, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008. He was born Nov. 9, 1908, in Niagara Falls, N.Y., to William E. and Amelia F. (Specht) Streicher.
Carl moved to Lake Havasu City 38 years ago from Ashtabula, Ohio. He was a front runner and flagship in the medical community of Lake Havasu City, for he was the first American Board Certified specialist to open a practice here from 1971 until his retirement in 1980 specializing in ophthalmology and ear, nose and throat conditions.
Modest about his many professional accomplishments, Carl prefers to talk about his world travels. His curiosity, strong sense of adventurer and wanderlust took him to nearly every country on earth. He’s been on safaris and deep sea fishing. He rates the Fiji Islands as the most beautiful spot on the planet because of the culture and wide-open tropical terrain.
Carl lost his first wife Helen, the mother of his three sons. She died of a sudden heart attack at the age of 49. The boys were grown and gone by then. He met Edith, who owned a little convenience store where he was a customer. They became good friends and later married on Sept. 27, 1967. Carl enjoyed fishing, boating, playing tennis and trying to beat his buddies at golf.
Carl is survived by his wife, Edith; sons, Carl W. (Sally) Streicher, of Carlsbad, Calif., Donald R. (Barbara) Streicher, of Estero, Fla., James F. (Sandy) Streicher, of Russell Ohio; and grandchildren, Mike, Tom, Maureen, Brian, Craig, Mark, Cheryl, Greg and Kerry.
A memorial service will be held at Lietz-Fraze Chapel Saturday at 11 a.m., with Pastor Dale Ray officiating.
Condolences and thoughts can be made to his family at www.lietz-frazefuneralhome.com.
Arrangements were placed under the care of Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home and Crematory.
