Dorothy Jean Newton, 78, passed away Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, in Lake Havasu City. Bunny, as she was known to her family and friends, was born June 4, 1930, in St. Paul, Minn., to Robert and Ruth (Self) Hoffmann.
In February of 1946, The Hoffmann family moved to San Diego, Calif., where Bunny enjoyed ice skating and roller skating. In 1953, she moved to Vidal Junction, Calif., with Roy “Bud” Newton and worked as a waitress for Frank and Betty Talbot. Bunny and Bud started coming to Lake Havasu City in 1954 where they enjoyed fishing, camping and boating. In 1970, they moved to Riverside, Calif., where she worked as a bookkeeper. Moving to Lake Havasu City in March 1988, Bunny continued working as a bookkeeper, most recently for C & W Marine.
Bunny was a member of the London Bridge Republican Women’s Club for 20 years and volunteered mailing the clubs newsletter for 15 years. She was also a member of the Desert Singles, where she loved dancing and hiking with the group.
Bunny is survived by her daughter, Judy K. Madden, of Lake Havasu City; her sister, Sr. Mary Evangela, of San Bernardino, Calif.; grandchildren, Brandy (Joe) Morrow, of Arvada, Colo., Edward “Bubba” Madden and his fiancé, Kelly Wake, of Lake Havasu City; great grandchildren, Jade and Haylie Morrow, of Arvada, Colo. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Bernard Hoffmann.
A celebration of Bunny’s life will be held at her home at 1705 S. Palo Verde Blvd. on Dec. 13, at 2 p.m.,. Those wishing to call Judy may do so at 855-7938.
