JOHNSEN, William R. (Bill)


The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Wednesday, July 7, 2010 William R. Johnsen June 26, 1924 - June 25, 2010 Bill was born and raised in Mount Vernon, Wash. He attended elementary and high school in Mount Vernon. After high school, like many others, he enlisted in the army. During World War II Bill was assigned to be a pharmacist/medic in Hawaii with his brother Bob. Upon completion of his service, he moved back to Mount Vernon and attended junior college. He met his wife of 61 years, Mary Lou, in German class there. Transferring to College of the Pacific, he started his life career of being an educator. He started out teaching in Monterey, Calif. He soon rose through the ranks to be principal, then curriculum coordinator for Monterey County schools. He accepted postings for superintendent of schools in Dos Palos, Calif., and White River school district in Washington state, eventually returning to Monterey to finish his career as associate superintendent of schools for Monterey County. He last resided with his family in Prescott, Ariz. He is preceded in death by Mary Lou, his wife of 61 years; his twin brother Bob; and mother Verlie. A service of remembrance will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 23, 2010, at the Prescott Trinity Presbyterian Church. Information provided by survivors.
