DEVAULT, Jack


The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ April 3, 1991, p. 2 Jack Devault, 90, of Wickenburg died March 26 at his home following a long illness. Mr. Devault was born September 21, 1910 in Pensacola, Florida. He had lived in Arizona for the past 22 years. Following service as a pilot in World War I, Mr. Devault settled in Talkeetna, Alaska. In Alaska he worked as a freight hauler, trapper and miner. He brought the first tractor to the Talkeetna area to replace horses and dogs for hauling freight. In 1951 he married his wife, Dorothy, who survives him, in Valdez, Alaska. There, he was a member of the Valdez City Council, a charter member of the Lions Club and built the first motel and service center in that city. In 1969 he and his wife moved to Stanton, and later to Wickenburg. In Arizona Mr. Devault was an active member of the Arizona Small Miner Operators Assn., and a member of the Wickenburg Chamber of Commerce. In addition to his wife, of Wickenburg, he is survived by a son, Dennis Jennings, of Fairbanks, Alaska. No services were conducted.
