Martha Pulliam, a former newspaper publisher and grandmother of Vice President Dan Quayle and former Wickenburg Sun publisher Michael Quayle, died July 11 in Franklin, Indiana at age 100.
Mrs. Pulliam was born March 23, 1891 in Franklin. She was the former wife of the late Eugene C. Pulliam, longtime publisher of The Arizona Republic and Phoenix Gazette.
Another grandson, Chris Quayle, of Wickenburg and a granddaughter Martha, of Indiana, also survive her.
Mrs. Pulliam was publisher of the Lebanon Reporter in Lebanon, Indiana from 1940 until December 1990.
She married Eugene Pulliam in 1919. The couple was divorced in 1941. Eugene purchased Phoenix Newspapers in 1946 and was the Valley papers’ publisher until his death in 1975.
Eugene and Martha Pulliam had two daughters, Martha Corinne and Helen Suzanne.
Martha Corinne is married to James Quayle, publisher of the Huntington Herald-Press in Indiana, and is the mother of the vice president. James and Martha Corinne Quayle have a home in Rancho de los Caballeros.
Helen Suzanne Murphy, the wife of the late William Murphy, a representative of Eli Lilly and Co. resides in Potomac, Maryland.
