From the Arizona Daily Star (September 6, 2009): Mario E. Guasp April 16, 1940 - September 1, 2009 Mario passed away peacefully at home after a short illness. He made us laugh till the very end. Mario joins in heaven his mother, Lydia Salcido and his brother, Tony Guasp, Sr. Mario along with his mother Lydia, ran Lydia's Cafe for over 40 years. More recently he worked with his "second mother" Rosalva Shaar at El Minuto Cafe. He was enlisted in the Army 1965 - January 1966. He was also a member of the National Guard. Survived by devoted tia, Rosalva Shaar; aunts, Carmen and Sara Lopez and Carlotta (Enrique) Ramirez; nephews, Tony (Maria) Guasp, Henry (Myrna) Guasp and Danny (Patricia) Guasp; nieces, Becky (Ernie) Lujan, Diane (Martin) Andrade and Liz (Dave) Rollins; sister-in-law, Ann Guasp and lots of cousins, extended family and friends. Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 8, 2009, 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., at CARRILLO'S TUCSON MORTUARY (South Chapel) 240 S. Stone Ave., with Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered Wednesday, September 9, 2009, 10:00 a.m., at Santa Cruz Church, 1220 S. 6th Ave. Interment to follow at Holy Hope Cemetery.
