GUTIERREZ, Sergio Arias


Sergio Arias Gutierrez, 35, was called by the Lord on October 28, 2004 after losing his courageous battle with cancer. Born in Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico on October 27, 1969. Sergio was a beloved son, brother, friend, husband and father. Sergio is survived by his loving wife Dina Angelica; Daughters: Angelica Maria and Carolina Victoria; Parents: Erasmo and Elvia; Brothers: Ernesto (Perla), Edwardo (Gwendoline); Sister: Erika (Erick) Lopez; Mother in-law: Gloria Meuly, Father in-law: Hector M. Vega; Sister in-laws: Dorina (Jason) Mozingo, Genevieve (Alfredo) Montano and Julie (Steve) Vargas. He is also survived by numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews, nieces, friends, God-children and compadres. Sergio was currently employed by Raytheon Missile Systems and was one semester away from completing his Electrical Engineering degree at the University of Arizona. Sergio graduated co-valedictorian from ITT Technical Institute in 1993 and is also a 1987 graduate of Pueblo High School. Sergio's hobbies included spending quality time with his wife and daughters, golfing, watching San Francisco 49er football, fishing, eating anything from Guero Canelo and watching and playing soccer. He was an avid fan of the University of Arizona basketball and football teams. Along with being a great son, brother, friend, husband and father Sergio will also be remembered as a great soccer player that he was. He began playing soccer at the age of nine at Menlo Park and continued his passion for the game playing for the Menlo Park Aztecas, Freedom Park, Pueblo High School Warriors, Pima Community College Aztecs, Tucson Amigo Indoor Team, Tucson Amigo Semi-Professional Outdoor Team and many other recreational soccer clubs including Tormenta. Sergio was a loving caring person who touched the lives of everyone he met. He will be greatly missed for his sense of humor and eternal optimism. We love you Sergio. We will miss you and never forget you. Que Dios Te Bendiga. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 2, 2004 from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at CARRILLO'S TUCSON MORTUARY (South Chapel) 240 S. Stone Ave. with rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered on Wednesday, November 3, 2004, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Augustine Cathedral, 192 S. Stone Ave. Internment to follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. The family thanks friends for their support and prayers and expresses heartfelt appreciation to St. Mary's Hospice and to his Oncologist and all his nurses.
