MOGK, Norman

Arizona Daily Sun, Flagstaff, AZ Sunday, July 11, 2010 Norman Mogk, 93, died peacefully Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at the Olivia White Hospice Home surrounded by family and friends. Mr. Mogk was born March 9, 1917, in Chicago, to German immigrants George and Theresa Mogk. He was the fifth of seven children, finding work as an office boy at Charles Bruning, makers of drafting equipment. It was there he met Mildred Bucolits. They married in 1945. He moved up the ranks to ultimately become the office manager at the corporate headquarters, taking the family to northern New Jersey for 17 years, then back to Chicago. The two retired to Sun City West in 1986. Due to Mrs. Mogk's declining health, they relocated to Flagstaff in 2006 to be closer to family. Mrs. Mogk died in September 2006, and through the Grace of God and the wonderful folks at Northland Hospice, Mr. Mogk lived out his remaining years with love and care at the Olivia White Home, living life to the fullest. He was able to attend the wedding of his only granddaughter just 10 days before he died of natural causes. Aside from teaching us perseverance by being married for 61 years and working for the same company for 42 years, Mr. Mogk will be remembered for his love of life (he really wanted to be 100), taking the family on wonderful vacations (We saw the USA in his Chevrolet), authoring two books for his grandchildren and his work on our family history. Though he gradually became blind, we are hopeful that he now has new eyes to see his family again. Mr. Mogk is survived by his sons, Wayne Mogk (and Marsha) of Farmingdale, Maine, and Dr. Neal Mogk (and Laura) of Flagstaff; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Mildred, and all of his siblings except Jerry Mogk of Hollister, Calif. A private service was at the Olivia White home on July 1. His ashes will be interred at the Crown of Life Lutheran Church in Sun City West, where he was a member for many years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Northland Hospice, so they may continue to do their wonderfully compassionate work. The family wishes to thank all of those at Northland Hospice who enriched Mr. Mogk's final years -- especially Mary Aiken ("Ma"), Kellie, Brittany, Caroline, Kim, Dave and Zane, Dick, Merry, Katy, Celia, Sarah, Peanut, Little Flower, Sunshine, Cupcake, Cookie and Star. Lastly, special thanks to Patti Kavanaugh and all the other Hospice nurses who have helped over the years. There's a special place in heaven for all of you.
