JOHNSON,
Don (Horsefly)
Don "Horsefly" Johnson was born in Tracy, Minnesota on September 19, 1931 and went to play heavenly music with our Lord July 8, 2010.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Johnson; his children, Kristie, Sheri, Joel and Jennifer; and his grandchildren, Janine, Morgan, Alexa and Gabriel.
Our father was an accomplished fiddler, having won the National Old Time Fiddlers' Contest in 56' held in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. He also won numerous awards locally at the Old-Time Fiddling contest held in Armory Park.
He was a barber for many years here in Tucson. He was the proprietor of A Model Barber Shop on Campbell and Grant. His favorite times during the day were spent telling stories and jokes while cutting hair.
At night he fiddled, which was his first love and passion. He played for several years as part of the Arizona Mountaineers. He also played with Dean Armstrong and the Arizona Dance Hands, the Titan Valley Warheads, the Bluegrass from Heaven and joined in playing with countless others. Our father had said it best when he said, "You've got to play if you got it in you". His music and laughter will be greatly missed.
Services will be held at Casas Church, Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at 5:00 p.m. and a graveside service will be held Wednesday, July 14, 2010, 10:00 a.m. at Evergreen Cemetery.
