WEST,
Betty J.
Betty J. West 78, passed away June 25, 2010 at the Casa de la Luz Hospice, Tucson, AZ. Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Bill A. West.
Betty is survived by her son, Gary West; sisters, Inger Andersen, and Linda Bieber (Charles); brother, John I. Johansen (Marion); nieces, Elizabeth, Susan, Carol, Barbara, and nephew, Mark. Betty was born in Battle Creek, MI and grew up in Brooklyn, New York. Betty was a long time Tucson resident, coming to Tucson in 1955. She married the love of her life, Bill, that same year. After being a devoted full-time mother, she earned her Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Nursing from the University of Arizona and enjoyed a career in nursing that included working at St. Mary's Hospital in Tucson and the Veteran's Administration Hospitals in Prescott and Tucson.
She retired in 1998 to be a caregiver for her husband, Bill and tirelessly cared for him until his death in 2000. Betty was a much better "rescuer" than a "rescuee" and was always more concerned about the well being of others rather than herself. She touched the lives of many while here; her vibrant outlook on life, dry sense of humor, and true compassion and love for her family and friends will be greatly missed. The family of Betty J. West would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff of Casa de la Luz, whose care and compassion will always be remembered.
At Betty's request, there will be no services.
