Sun City -- Paul R. DeBourg, 72, a retired cellist who played with the Marine Band Orchestra for six presidents, died May 7, 1986, at Beverly Manor Convalescent Center.
Mr. DeBougr of Sun City was born in New York and started playing violin at age 3 or 4. He moved to Sun City 12 years ago from Washington, D.C., upon retiring from the Marine Band Orchestra. Mr. DeBourg joined the orchestra in 1949 and played for Presidents Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon and Ford. In a 1984 interview, DeBourg said he was still playing, "You never really retire from music," he said. "It is a vocation, avocation and hobby all rolled up in one." He and his 1730 cello also had been members of the Sun City Symphony. He was a past president of the Sun City Musicians Club.
Survivors include his wife, Marcella; and sister, Agnes Edons.
A musical tribute, sponsored by the Sun City Musicians Club and Sun Cities Symphony Orchestra, will be today, (Tues., May 13, 1986) in the Arizona Room of the Fairway Recreation Center, 107th and Peoria Ave. Sunland Memorial Park & Mortuary made arrangements.
